Job Vacancies In Canada Were Unchanged In December

Statistics Canada said that job vacancies in Canada were virtually unchanged in December from November.

There were a total of 848,800 job vacancies in Canada during December, down 0.05% compared with 849,200 vacancies in November.

The number of job vacancies in Canada has been steadily declining since hitting a peak of more than one million in May 2022, indicating that the country’s labour market continues to tighten.

Job vacancies were up the most in the healthcare and social assistance sector during December, rising an annualized 13.8%.

The healthcare and social assistance sector has seen job vacancies more than double since the pandemic started in March 2020, said Statistics Canada.

At the same time, average weekly earnings in Canada rose 3.4% year-over-year in December.
