Futures linked to Canada's main stock index rose on Thursday, as precious metals extended their rally and oil advanced on lingering geopolitical concerns, while investors assessed Big Tech results from the U.S.
The TSX index finished in the green 79.67 points Wednesday at 33,176.07.
March futures moved forward 0.3% Thursday.
The Canadian dollar sifted off 0.06 cents to 73.80 cents U.S.
On the economic beat, Statistics Canada reported Canada's merchandise exports fell 2.8% in November, while imports edged down 0.1%. As a result, Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world widened from $395 million in October to $2.2 billion in November.
In corporate news, Celestica raised its full-year revenue outlook for 2026 after the bell on Wednesday, while Canadian Pacific Kansas City slightly missed fourth-quarter profit estimates.

The TSX Venture Exchange regrouped 5.23 points Wednesday to 1,148.10.

Stock futures were higher Thursday as traders mulled over the release of earnings reports from major tech firms and the latest Federal Reserve rate decision.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials acquired 35 points, or 0.1%, to 49,202.
Futures for the broader index grabbed 15.5 points, or 0.2%, at 7,022.75.
Futures for the NASDAQ captured 62.25 points, or 0.2%, to 26,218.50.
Meta Platforms added 8% after the Facebook parent gave a stronger-than-expected first-quarter sales forecast. Microsoft shares fell 6% as cloud growth slowed in the fiscal second quarter and the company gave soft guidance on operating margin in the fiscal third quarter.
Tesla shares advanced 3% after the company’s fourth-quarter results beat expectations.
Markets in Japan barely moved Thursday, while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong gained 0.5%.
Oil prices jumped $1.52 cents to $64.73 U.S. a barrel.
Spot gold surpassed the $5,500 mark in overnight trading, and it was last up nearly 3%. The yellow metal, long viewed as a safety asset, has been surging to new records as the U.S. dollar continues to slide. The price soared $213.30 to $5,516.90.
