Quantum Computing Could Transform the World, But It Also Poses Major Security Risks

Distributed on behalf of 01 Quantum Inc.

Quantum computing has the potential to transform the world. Unlike today's computers, quantum computers could solve incredibly complex problems in minutes—or even seconds. They could accelerate breakthroughs in areas like drug discovery, scientific research, and artificial intelligence. But the technology also comes with significant risks. A powerful quantum computer could threaten many of the systems we rely on every day, including online banking, email security, AI platforms, national defense, and billions of dollars in cryptocurrency.
One of the biggest concerns is Q-Day, the point at which quantum computers become powerful enough to break the most widely used current encryption standards. If that happens, much of the data protected by modern cryptography could become vulnerable. Another growing threat is known as "harvest now, decrypt later," where bad actors collect encrypted data today with the expectation that future quantum computers will be able to decrypt it.
Tackling the challenge are 01 Quantum Inc. (TSXV: ONE) (OTCQB: OONEF), Okta Inc. (NASDAQ: OKTA), Check Point Software (NASDAQ: CHKP), Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ: PANW), and Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT).

01 Quantum Inc., one of the first-to-market, enterprise level cybersecurity providers for the quantum computing era, today announced that Invest Ottawa has selected and approved 01 Quantum as an exhibitor at GCXpo 2026, The Epic Canadian Next‑Gen Tech Demonstration Showcase, hosted by Area X.O and operated by Invest Ottawa, in partnership with government and industry stakeholders.
The Company is deploying a quantum-secure Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) AI model to showcase encrypted-prompt inference for image recognition, secure data sharing, and anomaly detection. This system facilitates fully private AI processing for highly sensitive telemetry, including:
· Autonomous vehicle imagery
· Perimeter monitoring
· Watchlist and fraud detection
Data is encrypted at the simulated edge (e.g., drones or client devices) using quantum-resistant cryptography. The AI processes this data and returns an encrypted response without decrypting the prompt. By maintaining all computations in a strictly private, encrypted state, no sensitive cleartext is ever exposed to the AI operator, host server, or network, thus enabling new operating models, efficiencies and resiliency associated with shared infrastructures and training datasets.
Executive Commentary

Andrew Cheung, CEO of 01 Quantum, stated. “AI systems are increasingly being trusted with sensitive data across the public sector, transportation and finance industries, and more, yet many organizations have not adapted their security measures for the coming quantum era. With Q‑Day on the horizon and harvest‑now‑decrypt‑later attacks already a threat, Post Quantum Cryptography is becoming essential. The most straightforward approach is to encrypt the user data with our technology. At GCXpo, we will be demonstrating how our encrypted AI analytics can help safeguard critical information today while preparing Canada for tomorrow’s quantum challenges.”

Okta, the leading independent identity provider, announced financial results for its second quarter ended July 31, 2026. “As AI agents transform every layer of technology, every agent needs a trusted identity and clear controls over what it can access and do,” said Todd McKinnon, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Okta. “As the leading independent and neutral identity provider, Okta helps organizations discover agents, secure their connections, govern their actions, and respond when something goes wrong, giving them the flexibility and control they need to deploy agents safely and at scale.” In addition, “Our Q2 performance was highlighted by accelerating cRPO, success with our largest customers, and strong profitability and cash flow,” said Brett Tighe, Chief Financial Officer of Okta. “Steady momentum from core Okta workforce and customer identity drove ACV acceleration in both businesses. Top-line growth also benefited from strong contributions from our portfolio of new products, led by Okta Identity Governance.”
Check Point Software, a pioneer and global leader of cyber security solutions, announced the Check Point AI Network Firewall, delivered as part of Check Point firewall software release R82.20. AI has introduced a new class of network traffic — prompts, autonomous agent actions, and sensitive business context — that traditional firewalls were never designed to see or secure. The AI Network Firewall closes that gap from the Check Point firewall organizations already run, delivered through Check Point’s AI Defense Plane with no new infrastructure and no rearchitecting. “AI is transforming the enterprise network, and with the AI Network Firewall, we are transforming the firewall to secure it,” said Nataly Kremer, Chief Product Officer at Check Point. “The network is where every prompt, model call, and agent interaction already converges, yet traditional firewalls were never built to see or govern that activity. By bringing AI security into the firewall organizations already run, we give security teams the visibility and control to enable AI adoption safely, in real time.”
Palo Alto Networks, the global AI cybersecurity leader, announced financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter and fiscal year, ended July 31, 2026. "We delivered a strong Q4 to close out the year, adding nearly $1 billion of Net New NGS ARR in a single quarter," said Nikesh Arora, chairman and chief executive officer of Palo Alto Networks. "The latest advancements in AI are elevating cybersecurity to the top of the CIO priority list, and will serve as durable tailwinds as we progress towards our $20 billion FY30 NGS ARR target. We delivered a strong finish to a record year and exceeded our guidance across the board, fueled by strength across our Network & AI Security, Cortex, and Idira platforms," said Dipak Golechha, chief financial officer of Palo Alto Networks. "Our profitable growth framework continues to scale effectively, reinforcing our confidence in achieving 40% adjusted free cash flow margin in FY28."
Fortinet, the global cybersecurity leader driving the convergence of networking and security, today announced the opening of a new company-owned Innovation Hub in New York City. The new Innovation Hub will give customers and partners in the region greater access to Fortinet experts, hands-on technology demonstrations, executive briefings, and training. The expanded presence will also support closer engagement with organizations, including the financial services sector, as they navigate increasingly complex cybersecurity requirements. Representing an investment of more than $60 million, the facility underscores Fortinet’s continued commitment to strategic markets and providing customers and partners with greater access to its cybersecurity expertise and resources. The approximately 40,000-square-foot facility, which will support employees across several functions, including sales, is three times the size of Fortinet’s previous New York City office.
