Berkshire's Buffett Buys Heavily into Suncor

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett has taken a new stake in Canadian firm Suncor Energy (TSX:SU).

Buffett, one of the world’s most successful investors, filed a quarterly update on the holdings of his company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK.A), on Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). It showed that the Omaha, Nebraska-based company bought 10.76 million Suncor shares at the end of last year.

The SEC filing also showed that Berkshire Hathaway sold nearly three million Apple shares but still holds 249.6 million shares of the iPhone maker. Investors the world over follow what Berkshire Hathaway buys and sells closely because of Buffett's successful track record. Berkshire Hathaway officials don't generally comment on their quarterly filings.

Berkshire Hathaway also sold 41.4 million Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) shares last quarter and bought 4.2 million shares of Red Hat (NYSE: RHT). The company’s other holdings remained largely unchanged during the last quarter of 2018.
