Tesla Lobbies To Build Manufacturing Plant In Ontario

A new disclosure filing shows that electric vehicle maker Tesla (TSLA) has been lobbying the
Government of Ontario to build a manufacturing plant in the province.

According to a filing with the Office of the Integrity Commissioner, Tesla is working with the
Ontario government to “identify opportunities for industrial facility permitting reforms.”

The federal government in Ottawa has said that it is working to develop an electric vehicle
supply chain in Canada. Ontario is the heart of Canada’s automotive industry with several
manufacturing plants already established in the province.

Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk has said the company could announce a new
manufacturing plant later this year, though he has not said where it would be located.

Tesla currently manufactures its electric vehicles at factories in the U.S., Germany, and China.

U.S. electric-vehicle makers are looking to build vehicles closer to home and lessen their
reliance on China, the world's largest supplier of electric vehicle batteries.

Tesla stock is down 29% year-to-date and trading at $850 U.S. per share.
