Hundreds of Twitter employees have resigned after Elon Musk issued an ultimatum telling staff they need to commit to a “hardcore” work environment or leave the social media company.
Multiple media reports say that hundreds of Twitter workers, including engineers and computer programmers, left the company en masse yesterday (November 11), declining to commit to chief executive Musk’s working conditions.
Earlier this week, Musk sent an all-staff email telling employees to expect “long hours at high intensity” if they wanted to stay. He said everyone had until 5 p.m. on November 17 to decide if they wanted to commit or leave the company.
Musk also sent an email saying that managers at Twitter could be fired for allowing employees to work remotely going forward.
The latest wave of resignations leaves Twitter much smaller than when Musk took over in late October after buying the social media giant for about $44 billion U.S.
Musk has taken Twitter private since acquiring it for $54.20 U.S. per share.
