Amazon To Open Major Warehouse And Logistics Centre In Ottawa; 1,000 Jobs Expected

Online retail giant Amazon is opening a major warehouse and logistics centre in Ottawa, a move that will create 1,000 new jobs in the Canadian capital.

The Seattle, Washington headquartered company plans to take over a giant warehouse on Boundary Road in Ottawa near the TransCanada highway. An application submitted to the City of Ottawa by Amazon says the facility will be over one million square feet and require 99 truck bays and more than 1,000 parking spaces.

Provincial, federal and municipal governments have worked together in an effort to attract Amazon to Ottawa, which has a robust technology industry in addition to being home to the federal government. Executives with Amazon recently met with Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, according to the city’s lobby registry.

In 2015, Ottawa City Council voted to extend municipal water services to the Boundary Road site, and in 2016 Council identified the site as an important employment opportunity for the city.
