Apple Shows Users It’s Serious About Data Privacy

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced that it is going to add a feature called USB Restricted Mode in an upcoming update to its iOS software. The feature will close a loophole for hacking tools, including the ones used by law enforcement. It’ll make it much more difficult for information to be extracted from the device by disabling data transfer via a device’s lightning port an hour after the phone is locked.

Law enforcement may be upset with these developments as they have long advocated for workarounds to access user information, however, this is a big win for consumers as not only will their phones be more secure, but their data will be better protected as well.

In light of the recent data breaches we’ve seen and Facebook, Inc.’s (NASDAQ:FB) privacy scandals, it’s encouraging to see a company like Apple take its users’ privacy and security so seriously.

Consumers are more conscious of their privacy settings and there is a growing demand for safer devices.

Apple is a trusted brand in the technology world and many users are willing to pay a big premium for their products, and this is a great example of why. Apple values its users and wants to ensure that they are well protected, something that other companies may sometimes neglect in return for greater sales and profitability.

While the stock may not be in its high-growth stages anymore, it has still performed well, with the share price rising more than 30% in the past year, and a greater focus on security could help grow its popularity.
