Apple (AAPL) iPhone 8 Expected To Feature Model With A Copper Gold Color

Reports indicate that one of the versions of the next Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone will have a new copper gold color besides the usual white and black case colors. This is according to photos that were posted on the Chinese site, Weibo.

Though their authenticity could not be confirmed, it would be in line with what renowned Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, had predicted. Earlier in the year Kuo had said that the iPhone which will come with an OLED screen will be available with fewer colors compared to previous models.

Low OLED yield

The photo leaks coincide with an executive at one of Apple’s major suppliers, Foxconn, revealing on social media that the OLED yield for Apple has been 60% and this will likely lead to higher prices for the device since the manufacturing costs have also risen.

Prior to the information leak by the Foxconn executive there had been speculation that the next iPhone will cost between $1,000 and $1,200. The OLED screens are being produced by Apple’s rival, Samsung.

Production delays

Besides the low yield of OLED screens, production delays are also said to be threatening to derail Apple’s goal of ensuring that between three and four million iPhone 8 units are ready by the time of launch in September. Apple also plans to have roughly 60 million units available before the end of the year.

On Monday shares of Apple Inc rose by 1.41% to close the day at $158.59 a share.
