Medallion adds LaPoint and Keyser to Advisory Board
03/19/2010 [ACCESSWIRE] Vancouver, BC – Medallion Resources Ltd (TSX.V: MDL) today announced the appointment of two additional rare-earth-element (REE) technical specialists, Harmen Keyser, PGeo and Dennis LaPoint, PhD, LGeo, to its Advisory Board.
“Our goal is to source the best possible technical experts in the REE industry,” stated Bill Bird, President & CEO of Medallion Resources. “The addition of Harmen and Dennis rounds out our top-notch advisory group, putting Medallion in an enviable position to access both new properties and advanced approaches to REE exploration.”
Harmen Keyser is Vice President, Project Development for Ucore Uranium Inc. (TSX-V: UCU), overseeing the exploration of Ucore’s Bokan Mountain REE project in Alaska. Mr Keyser is a geologist with 30 years of mineral-exploration experience in over 25 countries and was involved in the discovery of the San Martin gold mine in Honduras, the Cerro Blanco gold mine in Guatemala, the Skukum Creek gold-silver deposit in Yukon, and several REE occurrences in Alaska. He has also worked as an independent consultant on mineral exploration around the globe and is a director of Precision GeoSurveys Inc and Sound Energy Inc.
Dennis LaPoint is founder and President of Appalachian Resources LLC, a North Carolina corporation focused on exploration project development and management. With nearly 40 years of exploration experience, Dr LaPoint has been active in a variety of commodities including gold, base metals, uranium and tin. He also has significant expertise in lateritic terranes and bauxite exploration, and their potential in the REE area. For the last ten years, he has focused on the Guiana Shield and Suriname, where he discovered the Nassau gold deposit for Alcoa, Inc and served as Cambior Inc’s exploration manager. Dr LaPoint received his PhD in geology at the University of Colorado and currently is an adjunct faculty member of the University of North Carolina.
Medallion Resources Ltd (TSX-V: MDL) explores for rare-earth elements, which are required by many green energy - technologies such wind turbines and hybrid/electric vehicles. Increasing interest in energy efficiency and environmental protection are fuelling intense interest in, and public awareness of these critical commodities. As understanding and demand increases, Medallion is well positioned to take part in potential breakthroughs in the exploration for these rare metals.
The Eden Lake REE property is Medallion’s first acquisition. Eden Lake is a recent discovery and one of the ten-most-promising North American REE prospects. A large mineralized area, high geochemical values and multiple-mineralization styles support a number of targets for REE mineralization over a large surface area. Elevated values of neodymium, one of the more valuable REE’s, indicate a potential for concentrations of this REE. The property is located 20 kilometres northwest of the town of Leaf Rapids in western Manitoba, which offers supportive regional infrastructure and logistics. Eden Lake is close to roads and hydroelectric power. According to the Fraser Institute, mining-friendly Manitoba is considered one of the best jurisdictions in the world for exploration and mining. The property is expected to present few permitting, environmental or social concerns.
ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
“William H Bird”, PhD, PGeo,
President & CEO
