Morris Furniture Company Selected to Receive the 2015 Governor’s Awards for the Arts

Over the Past 10 Years, Morris Furniture Company has Invested Over $1 Million into Area Nonprofits, Especially Those in the Arts

FAIRBORN, OH / ACCESSWIRE / February 27, 2015 /  Morris Furniture Company, an Ohio-based business that specializes in high-quality furniture and appliances as well as impeccable customer service, recently announced that it was chosen to receive the 2015 Governor's Award for the Arts. The company, which won an award for extensively supporting the arts industry, will be honored alongside five other individuals, all of whom were chosen from 68 nominations submitted by individuals and organizations across Ohio. 

The award winners will be honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Hosted by the Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation, the luncheon will be held at the Columbus Athenaeum in downtown Columbus. At the public ceremony, the award winners will be receive an original work of art by Nicole Schneider, a printmaker and mixed-media artist from Cleveland.

The owners of Morris Furniture Company, Larry and Marilyn Klaben, are well known for their community involvement and advocacy of arts education in Ohio. Since 2005, the Klabens have invested over $1 million in area nonprofits, especially in the arts. Some of the art programs that Morris Furniture Company supports include Wright State University, Dayton Art Institute, Stivers School for the Arts, and the Victoria Theatre Association. 

Additionally, among other ventures, Morris Furniture Company has been one of the leading sponsors of Wright State University's annual ARTSGALA, a showcase that displays the work of WSU's talented art students. To date, ARTSGALA has raised over $1.75 million in scholarships for its students. At WSU, the Klabens created ArtsFair, a family-friendly arts program for children that offers over 200 creative learning opportunities, and brought the first TEDx events to Dayton.
