On the last day of your getaway, few things are harder to do than packing up your swimsuit and sandals, knowing that very soon you'll be back to the day-to-day grind.
If you could bargain for an extra day, what would you give up?
Recently, Canada's leading online travel provider, Expedia.ca, gave Canadians a list of possibilities as part of their annual Vacation Deprivation survey, and found:
56% would give up video games for a week, in exchange for an extra day's vacation;
46% would give up alcohol for a week;
44% would give up chocolate for a week;
43% would go without television for a week.
Faced with the prospect of giving up their smartphones for a week, 36% said they'd do it for an additional vacation day – but younger respondents (age 18-34) were less receptive to the idea. When asked about giving up coffee for a week in exchange for an additional vacation day – those 55 or older were much less likely (24%) than younger respondents to strike that particular bargain (41% of those 34 and younger would do it).
On average, Canadians report they'll take 15 vacation days this year, down from 17 days last year.
Oh, and as for sacrifices in order to get that extra day off? Only 25% said they'd go without sex for a week – although this was higher among women than men (30% v. 21% respectively).
