3 Painless Ways To Save Money on Groceries

Spending less on groceries is an easy way for anyone to get ahead. But who wants to cut out steak, bacon, and other delicious but expensive foods?

Fortunately, there are some easy solutions that will allow anyone to save money shopping without having to drive around to a million different stores.

Shop at Costco

I discovered Costco a few years ago after years of refusing to get a membership on ethical grounds. Who pays to get into a grocery store?

I regret my initial resistance. Costco offers just enough variety for me to get 90% of my shopping done in one place while having prices that are only beat rarely by the specials from other chains.

Stock up

Costco doesn’t send out flyers. That means shoppers have to go in the store to find out this week’s deals. It’s a savvy marketing move made by a smart business.

This is where having the ability to store stuff comes in handy. If chicken breasts are offered for a sale price even cheaper than their normally competitive regular price, I’ll buy several packages and freeze them.

Be versatile

Many folks will plan their meals out in advance and buy groceries accordingly. I prefer a different approach.

I go to the store and see what’s cheap. If potatoes are on sale, I’ll have them as a side dish. If pork is a better buy than chicken, it’ll be my main protein. And so on.

This is particularly powerful when combined with buying in bulk. After doing this for a few weeks, it’s easy to end up with a freezer full of delicious meat bought on sale. All that’s left is to enjoy it.
