Shares in Tanganyika Oil Co (TSX:TYK) jumped 11 percent after Chinese state oil company Sinopec said its government had approved the $2.1 billion takeover of the producer of Syrian heavy oil.

The company, a leading provider of mobile medical lasers and surgical equipment announced that the Board of Directors has declared an annual dividend of $0.30 per share, payable January 12, 2009 to shareholders of record December 29, 2008.
