Crude oil futures came off earlier highs on Thursday, after the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said U.S. crude inventories rose by 3.1 million barrels in the week ended Feb.12.
Analysts polled by Platts expected a 1.65-million-barrel build in crude supplies. Crude oil for March delivery was up 82 cents U.S., or 1.1%, at $78.15 a barrel. The EIA also said gasoline stocks rose by 1.62 million barrels, while distillate stocks fell by 2.937 million barrels.
Analysts surveyed by Platts projected an increase of 1.5 million barrels in gasoline stocks and a decline of 1.6 million barrels in distillate supplies.
