The annual inflation rate eased to 1.9% in March from 2.6% in February, Statistics Canada said Friday.
Smaller year-to-year gains in prices for food and energy were highlighted as the main reasons for the decline.
Food costs were ahead 2.2% from a year earlier, compared with 4.1% in February.
Energy prices were up 5.1% in March from the same time last year, down from 7.2% in February.
That included a 6.6% annual rise in the price of gasoline, easing from 8.9% in February.
