Canada's annual inflation rate accelerated last month to 1.4% — moving it a little closer to the Bank of Canada's 2% ideal target.
Statistics Canada's November inflation reading was up from October when the overall inflation rate was just 1%
The agency's latest consumer price index says last month's increase was led by higher year-over-year prices for food and shelter — as prices rose in seven of the survey's eight major categories.
The CPI found that food prices were up 3.4% compared to a year earlier, thanks in large part to the higher costs of meat and fresh vegetables.
The agency says consumer prices climbed in every province last month compared to the year before.
Core CPI, which excludes volatile items such as gasoline, was 2% last month — down from 2.1% in October.
