Factories in this country produced goods and gathered new sales highs to begin 2016, according to information released Wednesday morning by Statistics Canada
The agency says manufacturing sales rose 2.3% in January to $53.1 billion, a new record. Thomson Reuters says the result topped the 0.5% gain that had been expected by economists
Higher sales of motor vehicles, food and motor vehicle parts proved the chief agents of this improvement. Sales of petroleum and coal products fell 5.9%
The number-crunchers add sales rose in 16 of 21 industries, representing more than 80% of the manufacturing sector. Eight provinces recorded higher sales in January, led by Ontario and Quebec.
