GDP in Canada was flat in July as gains in manufacturing and wholesale trade were offset by declines in other sectors, Statistics Canada said.
''The manufacturing sector advanced 0.8 percent in July, after nine consecutive monthly declines,'' the report from Ottawa said, adding wholesale trade rose 1.6 percent and the accommodation and food service sector posted a 0.6 percent gain.
However, the mining, and oil and gas extraction sector fell 1.5 percent, the ninth consecutive monthly decrease. Part of the decline in mining was attributed to some mine closures based on lower international demand, StatsCan said.
The construction sector declined 0.2 percent and retail trade also edged down 0.1 percent in July.
