The average weekly earnings of Canadian workers rose at their fastest pace since early 2008, Statistics Canada reported Friday.
The average earnings in July came in at $855.66 -- up 3.9% from the same month a year earlier. That's the biggest yearly gain since February 2008, the agency said.
The manufacturing sector registered the most increase, with average weekly wages rising to $965.90 in July.
The total hours worked by employees rose 0.5% in July from June, the sixth gain in seven months, the report said. The average workweek was unchanged at 32.9 hours.
