Canada Post Moves Up Christmas Deadlines Amid Unprecedented Demand

Canada Post has moved up its parcel shipping deadlines amid unprecedented holiday demand.

Canadians now have only a few days remaining to ship parcels in time for Christmas after Canada Post moved up deadlines because of the crushing demand it is experiencing this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The postal service has set various deadlines for this week but is still warning Canadians to expect delays. The deadline to ship parcels for local delivery is this Friday (December 18) for Priority, Xpresspost, flat rate box and regular parcel services.

The deadline to ship parcels nationally is also this Friday (December 18) for Priority, December 17 for Xpresspost, and December 15 for regular parcel services, though the regular parcel delivery deadline depends on the destination and may have already passed in some locations, warns Canada Post.

The changes come after Canada Post delivered a record 1.1 million parcels last weekend. Canada Post added weekend delivery in many communities, added more pickup locations and extended hours at many post offices to keep up with the record shipping.

Canada Post ramped up its holiday service early and has added more than 4,000 seasonal employees, more than 1,000 vehicles to its fleet and worked with commercial customers to manage the flow of parcels this holiday season.

On-time delivery guarantees were suspended by Canada Post in March because of the unique circumstances presented by operating during the pandemic this year.
