Signs point upward in Toronto



Futures pointed to a higher open on Monday after a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers over the weekend eased worries about geopolitical tensions.

The S&P/TSX composite index gained 3.01 points to end the day and week at 13,478.34, with futures up 0.2%.

RBC raised the rating on Parex Resources to outperform from sector perform following the release of a cash-flow-funded, 2014 capital plan that should deliver further production and reserves growth.

CIBC raised the rating on Pretium Resources to outperform from sector perform, believing the positive bulk sample data point represents a significant de-risking milestone for the company.

Investors cheered a landmark deal on Monday that will see world powers relax economic sanctions against Iran in exchange for a promise that the country scales back its nuclear program.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials moved higher by 58 points, or 0.4%, to 16,085. Futures for the S&P 500 improved 6.6 points, or 0.4% to 1,807.80, and futures for the NASDAQ took on 12.75 points, or 0.2% to 3,432.75

The gains for U.S. stock futures on Monday put the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 on course to continue their recent record breaking run.

Last week, the Dow hit a record high and the S&P 500 closed above 1,800 for the first time.

Trading volume is expected to be low during a holiday-shortened week. U.S. markets will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving and will shut at 1 p.m. ET on Friday.

In company news, Apple bought the Israeli company PrimeSense. Apple's stock slipped slightly in premarket trading.

On Sunday, diplomats made history when Iran and six world powers reached an agreement over the country's nuclear program.

The deal brokered between the U.S., U.K., France, Russia, China and Germany curtails Iran's ability to develop a nuclear weapon.

Iran has been hard hit in recent years as various sanctions have hurt the oil-rich economy and led to staggering inflation levels.

European markets were climbing higher in midday trading, with Germany's benchmark DAX index leading the way.

Most Asian markets rose Monday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 jumping 1.5% as the yen weakened against the dollar.

Oil prices sagged $1.35 to $93.49 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices dipped $13.70 to $1,230.40 U.S. an ounce.
