Toronto endured a slightly lower opening on Wednesday as anxiety ebbed over the standoff between Russia and Ukraine.
The S&P/TSX composite index gave back 20.51 points to begin the session at 15,253.72
The Canadian dollar eked up 0.04 cents at 91.57 cents U.S.
Turquoise Hill Resources is working to resolve a tax dispute with the Mongolian government before an extension runs out on funding commitments for the underground expansion of its Oyu Tolgoi gold and copper mine. Turquoise Hill shares gathered a penny to $3.73.
CIBC raised the rating on Ainsworth Lumber to outperform from sector performer. Ainsworth shares gained six cents to $2.55.
RBC Capital Markets raised the price target on Secure Energy Services to $28 from $24. Secure shares ballooned $2.67, or 11.1%, to $26.73 in the first hour of trading.
The July version of Canada's market-moving jobs report contained an error and would be restated, Statistics Canada said on Tuesday, pointing to the latest in a series of mistakes that have damaged its reputation in recent years.
Canada will donate a small quantity of an experimental Ebola vaccine developed in its government lab to the World Health Organization for use in Africa, the country's health minister said on Tuesday.

Of the 14 Toronto subgroups, nine were lower, as consumer staples dropped 0.9%, global base metals were off 0.8% and industrials were down 0.4%.
The five laggards were led by health-care stocks, up 1.4%, gold, up 0.5%. and information technology, up 0.3%.

The U.S. stock market opened higher Wednesday, led by gains in the energy and health-care sectors.
The Dow Jones Industrials tacked on 29.65 points to 16,509.19
The S&P 500 added 6.73 points to 1,940.48. The NASDAQ composite sharpened 27.56 points to 4,417.01.
Keeping a lid on the move were softer-than-expected retails sales data as well as disappointing quarterly results from retailers such as Macy’s Inc and Fossil Gorup Inc.
Shares of Macy’s Inc. fell following a disappointing outlook and second-quarter sales that fell short of estimates.
Shares of SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. plunged after the theme-park operator reported second-quarter results fell short and the company cut its full-year sales outlook.
King Digital Entertainment sank 22% after disappointing quarterly results from the “Candy Crush” triggered a wave of ratings downgrades from analysts.
Networking-gear maker Cisco Systems will release results after the close of Wednesday’s trading session.
Prices for 10-year U.S. Treasuries gained, lowering yields to 2.43% from Tuesday’s 2.44%. Treasury prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Oil prices slumped four cents to $97.33 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices regained $3.20 at $1,313.70 U.S. an ounce.
