Stock futures pointed to a higher opening for Canada's main stock index on Thursday
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 11.50 points to close Wednesday at 15,262.73, with Thursday’s futures up 0.2%.

On the economic beat, Statistics Canada reported that its New Housing Price Index rose 0.2% in June, up slightly from the 0.1% gain observed in May. The increase was largely the result of higher new home prices in Ontario.

There's more bad news for the global economy Thursday, though markets seem to be shrugging it off.
Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials moved higher 18 points, or 0.1%, to 16,637. Futures for the S&P 500 gained two points, or 0.1%, to 1,946.75, and futures for the NASDAQ picked up 5.25 points, or 0.1%, to 3,951.
Shares of Cisco Systems fell in pre-market trading after the IT firm said it plans to lay off up to 6,000 employees, about 8% of its current global workforce.
Retailers Kohl's and Wal-Mart reported earnings before the opening bell.
Wal-Mart lowered its guidance because of higher health care costs than previously expected and also the need to invest more money in e-commerce. The retailer's shares dropped 1% before the bell.
Kohl's reported a quarterly decline in revenue and same-store sales, but profit rose, compared to the year before. Shares jumped more than 3%.
J.C. Penney, Nordstrom and Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, will report after the close.
The U.S. Labor Department was to post weekly jobless claims at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Euro-zone growth evaporated in the second quarter, as Russian meddling in Ukraine helped send the German economy into reverse and France stagnated. European markets fell in early trading, before edging higher midday with U.S. stock futures.
Oil prices picked up six cents to $97.43 U.S. a barrel
Gold prices dropped $3.20 to $1,311.30 U.S. an ounce.
