Tracking weakness in global markets, Canada's main stock index looked set for a lower start on Monday as pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong weighed on Asia exposed stocks.
The S&P/TSX composite index spiked 133.20 points Friday, to end the week at 15,206.77. Futures Monday, however, were down 0.3%.
The Canadian dollar was off 0.05 cents to 89.61 cents U.S. early Friday.
Encana said it would buy Athlon Energy for $7.1 billion in cash, excluding debt, as it accelerates its plan to focus on more-lucrative oil and natural-gas liquids.
Limited crude supplies at Cushing, Oklahoma, have prompted pipeline company Enbridge Inc to implement new steps to increase the flow into the storage hub and delivery point for U.S. crude oil futures.

U.S. stock markets are poised for further declines Monday after posting losses last week. Most global markets are also heading lower.
Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials dropped 100 points, or 0.6%, to 16,930. Futures for the S&P 500 dipped 12.5, or 0.6%, to 1,963.50, and futures for the NASDAQ slid 25.75 points, or 0.6%, to 4,020.
Both Apple and Starbucks were among the main decliners ahead of the open. The European Union is reported to be close to revealing the first results of an investigation into both companies' tax affairs, and could force them to repay billions of dollars.
Japan's Softbank is reported to be considering a bid for Dreamworks Animation, the studio behind 'Shrek' and 'How to Train Your Dragon.'
The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis will report monthly personal income and spending numbers, as well as its price index
Pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong have rattled investors, pushing the Hang Seng index down by nearly 2%. The index is now at its lowest point since July, though Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rose 0.5%.
The protesters -- who are facing a forceful crackdown by police -- are calling for free and open elections in the Chinese territory. Beijing wants to screen candidates for the city's top office. Some protesters say they also want to draw attention to rising inequality in one of the world's most expensive cities.
Oil prices fell 35 cents to $93.19 U.S. a barrel
Gold prices took on $8.30 to $1,223.70 U.S. an ounce.
