Stock futures pointed to a higher opening in Toronto on Tuesday, tracking U.S. stock index futures on upbeat U.S. earnings reports.
The S&P/TSX composite index was better by 52.05 points to close Monday at 15,412.60. Futures for June spiked 0.4% Tuesday.
The Canadian dollar nicked up 0.02 cents to 81.78 cents U.S. early Tuesday.
Teck Resources slashed its half-yearly dividend and posted quarterly profit below analysts' estimates on Tuesday as prices for steel-making coal and copper remained depressed.
Rogers Communications Inc posted an unexpected 17% drop in quarterly profit on Monday as the cable, phone and media company struggled to hold on to customers during a period of industry-wide turbulence.

On things economic, Statistics Canada reported this morning that wholesale trade slumped again in February, this time by 0.4% to $53.6 billion, a six-month low. Sales were down in three of seven subsectors, accounting for 51% of wholesale sales.

U.S. stock futures are pushing up, European markets are all rising in early trade and many Asian markets closed the day with big gains.
Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 69 points, or 0.4%, to 18,012. Futures for the S&P 500 moved up 8.5 points, or 0.4%, to 2,099.50, and futures for the NASDAQ advanced 20.25 points, or 0.5%, to 4,427.75
Investors are in the middle of earnings season and many big companies are reporting Tuesday.
Harley-Davidson, Lockheed Martin, Under Armour, Verizon and Kimberly-Clark are reporting ahead of the open.
Chipotle, Yahoo, and YUM Brands will report after the close.
British-based tech firm ARM Holdings reported a double-digit surge in revenue and earnings, which impressed investors. Shares are up about 6% premarket.
Meanwhile, shares in Credit Suisse dipped by about 3% in Europe. The bank's quarterly numbers were solid but investors are still not entirely happy with its financial strength. A key metric tracking the bank's capital levels has deteriorated.

Gold prices hiked $7.90 to $1,201.60 U.S. an ounce.
