Stocks flat ahead of PMI data


Canadian stock futures were unchanged on Wednesday ahead of data on purchasing activity in the country in April.

The S&P/TSX composite index collapsed 193.53 points, or 1.3%, to close Tuesday at 15,173.94

The Canadian dollar gained 0.45 cents to 83.31 U.S. early Wednesday.

On the economic slate, Western University in London is out this morning with its IVEY Purchasing Managers Index at 10 this morning.

The TSX Venture Exchange moved down 2.37 points Wednesday to 696.75

U.S. stock futures are all looking solid ahead of the open.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 58 points, or 0.3%, to 17,922. Futures for the S&P 500 poked up 5.5 points, or 0.3%, to 2,089.50, and futures for the NASDAQ moved up 4.5 points, or 0.1%, to 4,412.

Anheuser-Busch InBev, SodaStream and Wendy's are reporting ahead of the open.

After the close, markets will hear from 21st Century Fox, Tesla, Whole Foods,Transocean and Keurig Green Mountain.

The key report to watch this morning is the ADP employment report for April.

European markets are mostly rising in early trading. They seem unfazed by Greece's continuing negotiations with international creditors over its debts and economic reforms. The European Central Bank will discuss funding for Greek banks later Wednesday.

All major Asian markets ended with losses. Australia's key index dropped by just over 2%.

Oil prices gained $1.40 to $61.80 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices dwindled $2.80 to $1,190.40 U.S. an ounce.
