Lower Readings in Store for Toronto


Equity markets in Toronto looked set to extend Monday’s losses on Tuesday

The S&P/TSX composite index moved negative 51.11 points to finish Monday at 13,382.38, with Tuesday futures down 0.3%.

The Canadian dollar inched up 0.03 cents to 74.84 cents U.S. early Tuesday

Bombardier said lower production of its business jets - Global 5000 and Global 6000 - will drive down revenue in 2016. The company has an investor day planned for today.

Activist investor Bill Ackman's hedge fund has boosted its investment in Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, and signaled it may play a greater role in the beleaguered drug maker's strategy

Canaccord Genuity raised the target price on TD Bank to $56.00 from $54.00

The agency also raised the target price on Bank of Nova Scotia to $71.00 from $67.00

Lastly, Canaccord Genuity raised the target price on Manitoba Telecom Services to $29.00 from $27.00

U.S. stock futures are lower to begin Tuesday, only 48 hours before Thanksgiving.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones faded 122 points, or 0.7%, to 17,640, futures for the S&P 500 dipped 14.75 points, or 0.7%, to 2,069.50, and futures for the NASDAQ lost 35 points, or 0.8%, to 4,640.75.

Xerox shares saw a 7% boost during extended trading after a new public filing revealed that activist investor Carl Icahn is increasing his stake in the company.

Dollar Tree, DSW, Burlington Stores andTiffany & Co will report quarterly results this morning, along with Cracker Barrel,Campbell Soup, and Hormel Foods -- owner of brands like Spam, Skippy, and Jennie-O.

This afternoon, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and its newly-formed sister company, HP, will each report its first earnings updates since the two companies split. Also due after the close are reports from Guess and TiVo.

A second estimate for U.S. Gross Domestic Product in the third quarter will be released this morning, followed soon after by the Consumer Conference Board’s update of its Consumer Confidence Index.

Travel companies are under pressure, after the U.S. issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans amid concerns that terror groups and individuals may be planning more attacks after the Paris massacres.

Thus, shares in Air France-KLM, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Lufthansa and other airlines are dipping. Cruise lines Royal Caribbean Cruises and Carnival Corporation are both trending about 1.4% lower in pre-market trading.

European markets are down in early trading, while Asian markets were mixed at Tuesday close.

Oil prices gained 81 cents to $42.56 U.S. a barrel

Gold prices hiked $11.05 to $1,080.23 U.S. an ounce.
