TSX to Open Higher


Stock futures pointed to a higher opening for equity markets in Toronto on Thursday as concerns eased about the global outlook for economic growth.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index gained 35.83 points to close Wednesday at 13,017.93, its highest mark since December 31.

The Canadian dollar dipped 0.18 cents to 74.36cents U.S. early Thursday.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd cuts its 2016 capital expenditure on Thursday after it reported an 89 percent fall in quarterly profit, amid a steep decline in crude prices.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International said it appointed Ari Kellen executive vice president, succeeding the outgoing Deb Jorn.

CIBC raised the target price on Bank of Montreal to $79.00 from $78.00

Barclays cut the target price on George Weston to $123.00 from $124.00 with an overweight rating.

National Bank Financial cut the rating on K-Bro Linen to sector perform from outperform

The TSX Venture Exchange picked up 4.54 points Wednesday to 546.23

U.S. stock futures are little changed and international stock markets are mixed.

Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials listed lower 18 points, or 0.1%, to 16,850, futures for the S&P 500 faded 2.5 points, or 0.1%, to 1,981. NASDAQ futures dropped 2.5 points, or 0.1%, to 4,326.75.

Companies including Kroger, Burlington Stores and Barnes & Noble are reporting ahead of the open.

After the close, the markets will see the results from H&R Block, Smith & Wesson and Planet Fitness

Crude oil futures are holding onto recent gains. Venezuela said 15 major oil producing nations would meet later this month to agree an output freeze, but gave no further details. Saudi Arabia and Russia recently agreed to cap production levels in an effort to keep oil prices from falling further in an oversupplied market.

Oil prices plummeted to a 13-year low of $26.05 U.S. a barrel on February 11, but have since rallied by more than 30%.

Gold prices gained $1.85 to $1,241.83 U.S. an ounce.
