Equities in Canada’s largest market raced ahead Monday on rising expectations that Britain will vote to remain in the European Union later this week.
The S&P/TSX Composite zoomed higher 113.37 points to close Monday at 14,015.14
The Canadian dollar remained positive 0.52 cents to 78.08 cents U.S.
Base metals stocks led the parade of gainers, as First Quantum Minerals galloped ahead 50 cents, or 5.7%, to $9.27, while Teck Resources advanced 51 cents, or 3.3%, to $15.85.
Energy stocks also gushed higher, most notably, Encana Corporation, gaining 16 cents, or 1.5%, to $10.64, while Suncor picked up 18 cents to $34.52.
Health-care stocks moved up as well, as Valeant Pharmaceuticals jumped 37 cents, or 1.3%, to $28.77, while Concordia Healthcare tacked on 40 cents, or 1.4%, to $29.40.
Gold stocks moved in the other direction, though, as Kinross Gold slid 14 cents, or 2.2%, to $6.28, while Barrick Gold docked 51 cents, or 2%, to $25.30.
Economically speaking, Statistics Canada reported that wholesale sales edged up 0.1% to $54.8 billion in April, after two consecutive monthly declines.
Gains were recorded in three of seven sub-sectors, led by the miscellaneous sub-sector.

The TSX Venture Exchange eked into positive territory 0.04 points to close Monday at 715.40
All but one of the 13 subgroups made gains Monday, metals and mining picking up 3.3%, energy up 2.1%, and health-care soaring 1.7%.
Gold proved the lone holdout, sinking 0.3%.
ON WALLSTREET
U.S. stocks closed higher Monday, amid gains in oil prices, as fears of a Brexit diminished.
The Dow Jones Industrials gained 129.71 points to 17,804.87, with Boeing, Goldman Sachs and 3M contributing the most gains. At session highs, the index traded 271.2 points higher.
The S&P 500 hiked 12.03 points at 2,083.25. Energy closed about 1% higher as one of the top S&P 500 advancers.
The NASDAQ bolted higher 36.88 points to 4,837.21
A series of polls released over the weekend showed those in favour of the U.K. staying in the European Union held a slight lead over the "leave" camp. The campaign in favor of a Brexit lost momentum after Member of Parliament Jo Cox was killed last week.
Prices for the 10-year Treasury faded, raising yields to 1.67% from Friday’s 1.61%. Treasury prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Oil prices added $1.19 a barrel to $49.17 U.S.
Gold prices dropped $1.10 to $1,293.70 U.S. an ounce.
