Canadian stock futures were little changed on Tuesday as investors weighed the chances of a U.S. interest rate hike this month after a weaker-than-expected jobs report.
The S&P/TSX Composite surged 111.79 points to end the week at 14,795.70. September futures inched up 0.05% Tuesday.
The Canadian dollar increased 0.07 cents to 77.42 cents U.S. early Tuesday.
Markets on both sides of the border were shuttered Monday for Labour Day
Enbridge Inc. said it would buy Spectra Energy Corp in an all-stock deal valued at about $37 billion to create the largest North American energy infrastructure company.

U.S. futures are relatively steady Tuesday, as traders shake off a long holiday weekend.
Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 19 points, or 0.1%, to 18,499, while futures for the S&P 500 picked up two points, or 0.1%, at 2,180. NASDAQ futures took on five points, or 0.1%, at 4,800.25.
Shares in Monsanto are set to surge at the open after Germany's Bayer sweetened its bid to buy the world's largest seed seller.
Bayer said it is now willing to pay $127.50 U.S. per Monsanto share, about $20 above Friday's closing price. That values the offer at $55.8 billion U.S. Including Monsanto's debt, the deal would be worth $65 billion U.S.
Monsanto said it is considering the offer "as well as proposals from other parties and other strategic alternatives."
Meanwhile, Softbank has completed its $32.5-billion U.S. purchase of ARM Holdings, a British company that designs the chips used in cellphones and electronic gadgets around the world.
It's a relatively light day for earnings. Semiconductor firm Marvell will report quarterly results ahead of the open. Dave & Buster's and Casey's General Store will report after the close.
European markets are little changed in early trading. Asian stock markets mostly closed the day with positive results.

Gold prices advanced $11.00 to $1,337.70 U.S. an ounce.
