Stock futures pointed to a higher opening for Canada's main stock index on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve kept interest rates as they were.
The S&P/TSX Composite leaped 188.84 points, or 1.3%, to finish Wednesday at 14,710.82. September futures were up 0.3% Thursday.
The Canadian dollar popped 0.52 cents at 76.85 cents U.S. early Thursday.
General Motors will use its Oshawa, Ontario, assembly plant to expand production of pick-up trucks for North America if a tentative agreement with Canadian auto workers is ratified
TransCanada Corp. said its U.S. natural gas pipeline unit had reached a settlement with customers over proposed transportation rate hikes made earlier this year.

On the economic calendar, Statistics Canada reported that employment insurance beneficiaries in Canada totaled 575,200 in July, up 4.4% from the month before.

U.S. stock futures are pushing up again, in light of Wednesday’s decision by the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates steady.
Ahead of the opening bell, futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 58 points, or 0.3%, to 18,276, while futures for the S&P 500 picked up 6.8 points, or 0.3%, at 2,163. NASDAQ futures hiked 17.75 points, or 0.4%, at 4,867.75.
Tech publication Recode is reporting that Yahoo will confirm a massive data breach this week, based on interviews with anonymous sources. The report said the hack "exposed several hundred million user accounts" and could complicate Verizon's planned $4.8-billion U.S. takeover of Yahoo.
Investors are also keeping an eye on T-Mobile after the company had problems overnight with its network. T-Mobile said in an early morning tweet around 6 a.m. ET that the problems had been fixed.
Shares in software firm Red Hat surged about 6% in extended trading after the company reported better-than-expected earnings.
Autozone and Rite Aid will post quarterly earnings ahead of the open.
On the economic slate, the U.S. National Association of Realtors will post its latest monthly report on the U.S. housing market at 10 a.m. ET. This report will outline how sales are performing for existing homes.
European markets are all rising in early trading on the back of the Fed announcement, with many up by 1% or more. Germany's Dax is up nearly 2%. Asian markets also made solid gains over the course of the day.

Gold prices hiked $9.40 to $1,340.80 U.S. an ounce.
