Stocks Perk Monday

Stocks enjoyed triple-digit gains on Monday, boosted by the energy and health-care sectors

The S&P/TSX Composite Index jumped 116.62 points to close Monday at 16,346.66

The Canadian dollar dipped 0.03 cents to 74.38 cents U.S.

Energy stocks gushed, Imperial Oil taking on 30 cents to $37.05, while Suncor Energy climbed 91 cents, or 2.2%, to $42.72.

Health-care stocks proved more than healthy, as Cronos Group, which rose 75 cents, or 3.6%, to $21.42.

Among industrials, Bombardier claimed a penny to $2.08, while Canadian National Railways gained $1.47, or 1.2%, to $124.45.

New Gold fell four cents, or 4.4%, the most on the TSX, to 86 cents, while Barrick Gold dipped eight cents to $15.95.

Oil prices pressed forward 61 cents to $59.24 U.S. a barrel.

Gold prices gathered 80 cents to $1,284.40 U.S. an ounce.

ON BAYSTREET

The TSX Venture Exchange inched forward 0.14 points to 607.82.

All but one of the 12 Toronto subgroups were positive by the end of the session, as energy rumbled ahead 1.7%, health-care surged 1.4%, and industrials were better by 1.1%.

Only gold missed the party, sinking 0.3%.
