Equities in Toronto showed muscle to begin the week, continuing the rally from late last week.
The TSX Composite leaped 213.89 points, or 1.1%, to close at 19,978.23.
The Canadian dollar powered 0.22 cents higher to 77.01 cents.
Shares in Tamarack Valley Energy fought their way back to Friday’s closing levels at $3.98, the company saying it will buy oil producer Deltastream Energy in a deal valued at $1.425 billion, making it the largest producer in Alberta's Clearwater County.
Elsewhere in energy, Topaz Energy advanced $1.21, or 6%, to $21.41, while Paramount Resources took on $1.20, or 4.3%, to $29.05.
Real-estate issues also did well, as units of Granite REIT jumped $2.62, or 3.5%, to $77.33, while units of Choice Properties REIT tacked on 37 cents, or 2.7%, to $14.24.
Health-care issues moved ahead, as Canopy Growth gained 20 cents, or 4.2%, to $4.96, while Aurora Cannabis captured seven cents, or 3.4%, to $2.11.

The TSX Venture Exchange climbed 13.97 points, or 2.2%, to 659.54
All 12 TSX subgroups were higher to end Monday, with energy rumbling 1.9%, real-estate soaring 1.7%, and health-care gaining 1.3%.

Stocks rose on Monday as a weaker dollar and growing confidence that inflation has peaked helped Wall Street’s relief rally continue ahead of key inflation report.
The Dow Jones Industrials raced 229.63 points to conclude Monday at 32,381.34
The S&P 500 tacked 43.05 points, or 1.1%, to 4,110.41.
The NASDAQ Composite jumped 154.10 points, or 1.3%, to 12,266.41.
Energy was the top sector, but the rally was broad, with Bristol-Myers Squibb gaining nearly 6% and tech stalwart Apple adding 3.4%.
The moves extended a rebound for U.S. stocks, as all three major averages snapped a three-week losing streak on Friday.
Stocks have been volatile ahead of the September 20-21 meeting of the Federal Reserve, where the central bank is expected to deliver its third consecutive 0.75-percentage-point rate hike in an effort to combat high inflation.

Treasury prices retreated Monday, raising yields to 3.35% from Friday’s 3.32%. Treasury prices and yields move in opposite direction.

Gold prices leaped $7.20 to $1,735.80 U.S. an ounce.
