Medical Facilities Shares Gain on Dividend Announcement

The S&P/TSX Index has edged higher in trading today as risk-on sentiment has returned to the market. The Canadian benchmark index has now gained almost 5.7% over the past one month, compared to a gain of almost 7% for the U.S. benchmark index S&P 500.  

One of the major gainers in trading today is Medical Facilities Corp. (TSX: DR). Based in Toronto, Medical Facilities, through its subsidiaries, owns controlling interests in six limited liability entities. Each of these entities own a specialty surgical hospital (SSH) or an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) located in the U.S.  

At last check, Medical Facilities shares were trading 2.82% higher at C$15.69. The stock is gaining momentum in trading today after the company announced a dividend payment for the month of March. 

Medical Facilities will pay a cash dividend of C$0.09375 per common share to holders of record of common shares at the close of business on March 31, 2016. Medical Facilities has an excellent track record when it comes to shareholder distributions. In fact the March dividend will be the company’s 144th consecutive dividend payment since inception. The stock also offers an attractive dividend yield of 7.18% right now.
