Since the start of this year, global markets have seen extreme volatility. Market sentiment has been weighed down by concerns over a slowdown in China. The volatile environment though has boosted the appeal of safe-haven assets such as gold and silver. Both precious metals struggled in 2015 but have rebounded sharply in 2016. While buying physical gold and silver is a way to gain exposure to gold and silver, investors can also look at ETFs such as Horizon’s BetaPro COMEX Gold Bullion Bull Plus ETF (TSE: HBU) and Horizon’s BetaPro COMEX Silver Bull Plus ETF (TSE: HZU).
HBU has already gained more than 42% so far this year. The fund seeks daily investment results that correspond to two times (200%) the daily performance of the COMEX Gold Bullion Index. The ETF is managed by BetaPro Management Inc. and ProFund Advisors LLC has been appointed as portfolio manager of the ETF.
Like HBU, HZU has also generated strong returns this year. Year-to-date, the ETF is up more than 28%. The fund seeks investment results that correspond to two times (200%) the daily performance of the COMEX silver futures contract for a subsequent delivery month.
