U.S. entertainment company CBS Television Studios (NYSE: CBS) has announced that it will open a sizable television and film production centre outside Toronto next year.
The company, which produces a number of hit shows including "The Good Fight" and "Hawaii Five-O," says that the television and film hub will include six sound stages, production offices and other support facilities.
In all, the centre will be a 260,000-square-foot facility located in Mississauga just outside of Toronto. In a news release, CBS said the production centre will open in mid-2019. The company added that the centre will create hundreds of new jobs and help expand its roster of television programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.
CBS currently shoots "Star Trek: Discovery" and "In the Dark" in Toronto, but has several other productions in Canada, including a reboot of the show "Charmed." Other shows produced by CBS include "Jane the Virgin," "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," and "The Late Late Show with James Corden.
