Marriages between the worlds of pharmaceutical and technology are certainly nothing new. The former sector needs revolutionary ways to get its innovative, health-giving products known, distributed and sold, and so, come to rely on the latter to speed the process along.
The latest nuptial news, announced at the end of September, involves a pair of Houston-based firms. The publicly-traded Data Call Technologies (OTCBB:DCLT) agreed to be picked up by a private company known as a Lab Amazon Group, Inc., involved in unearthing, developing, producing and selling high-quality, safe and effective natural products for pharmaceutical applications.
DCLT, created eight years ago as Digital Signage, was initially an advertising company that changed its identity and mandate to respond to the cry for on-demand content.
For its part, Lab Amazon’s products are directed at large available markets with largely unmet therapeutic needs, and the Company is in the process of submitting its first candidate, a wound-care product known as EDWD31 (Lab Amazon's wound care product) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Commission for approval.
EDWD31 is a topical bacteriostatic formula which effectively treats a broad spectrum of wounds, sores, infected post-operative incisions, and shows much promise with several other dermal diseases. It’s the first in a line of many products that will arise from the research conducted to date and the basis for the development of future applications.
Lab Amazon will acquire Data Call in its entirety for an undisclosed amount. Upon completion of the acquisition, Lab Amazon will become the public company with Data Call becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lab Amazon. Both companies contemplate the signing of a definitive merger agreement within the next 30 days.
DCLT noted explosive growth in the last reported quarter, showing sales revenue increasing over 34% from the year before, pretty remarkable in this rough economic climate, and CEO Tim Vance is confident the merger will empower Data Call to attain new heights in its current market and grow rapidly into others.
For now, DCLT remains in the upper echelons of a 52-week trading range, around 3.7 cents at time of writing, just a mite below its peak for the year of 3.8, achieved last April. Its gulch was plumbed in August at six-10ths of a cent. The day of the purchase announcement by Lab Amazon, more than 700,000 shares had traded by 1pm EST alone. With new efficiencies being brought to the table by its new parent, the combined company could be on its way to conquering new worlds, and taking investors on an incredible journey.
