Labatt Breweries (BUD) has announced that it is winding down its ‘Fluent Beverages’ subsidiary
that made cannabis-infused drinks.
Fluent Beverages is ending its Canadian operations after four years of operation. The venture
began in 2018 as a partnership between Labatt parent company AB InBev and cannabis
producer Tilray (TLRY).
But earlier this year, Tilray said it ended the relationship and negotiated an arrangement to
manufacture cannabis beverages on behalf of Fluent Beverages.
Labatt said that in its three years of operation, Fluent Beverages gained insights into the
cannabis sector and consumer preferences.
The company will use learnings from Fluent Beverages to evaluate future opportunities in the
cannabis industry, which the brewer said it plans to continue monitoring closely.
