Discount U.S. airline JetBlue (JBLU) has officially begun service to Canada with its first flight
arriving in Vancouver, B.C. from New York City's JFK International Airport.
The New York-based airline, which announced the new route more than a year ago, says it is
the only carrier to serve the western Canadian city with non-stop service from New York City.
However, JetBlue will be competing with other U.S. airlines as well as Canadian airlines,
including Air Canada (AC), WestJet Airlines and Flair Airlines, that either offer direct flights to
other New York airports or through connections to JFK, the largest airline in the city.
JetBlue is growing beyond the U.S. with more than 30 international destinations in over 24
countries.
The City of Vancouver has welcomed JetBlue, saying the new direct service means easier
access from an important American centre as it tries to rebuild its tourism sector coming out of
the pandemic.
The daily evening and return flights to Vancouver from New York City will be on Airbus A320
aircraft.
JetBlue stock is down 33% this year at $9.87 U.S. a share.
