Walmart’s Q2 Net Income Rises 20% From Year Ago

Walmart (WMT) has reported that its second-quarter net income rose 20% to $5.15 billion U.S.
The world’s largest retailer beat Wall Street forecasts on both the top and bottom lines,

announcing earnings per share (EPS) of $1.77 U.S. versus $1.62 U.S. that was expected,
according to Refinitiv data.

Revenues came in at $152.86 billion U.S. compared with $150.81 billion U.S. that analysts had
expected.

Walmart’s net income for Q2 increased to $5.15 billion, or $1.88 per share, compared with
$4.28 billion, or $1.52 per share, a year earlier.

Same-store sales in the U.S. grew 6.5% in the second quarter from a year ago. That was higher
than the 5.9% growth that analysts had forecast. Walmart’s e-commerce sales rose 12%
compared with a year earlier.

The company’s membership-based warehouse club, called “Sam’s Club,” saw same-store sales
grow 10% during the quarter, slightly below the 10.1% that had been expected.

Looking ahead, Walmart reiterated its forecast for the second half of this year. The company
said it expects same-store sales for Walmart U.S. to grow by 3% through the end of 2022, or
4% for the entire year.

Walmart’s stock is down 8% this year at $132.60 U.S. per share.
