Apple (AAPL) is widely expected to introduce four new versions of its iPhone at a launch event
planned for September 7.
This year’s launch event has the tagline “Far Out,” which has led to speculation that the new
iPhones will include night-sky photography capabilities.
The consumer electronics giant is expected to discontinue the “mini” model of the iPhone that
has a 4.7-inch screen, according to multiple media reports.
Instead, Apple is expected to offer two sizes of iPhones, one with a 6.1-inch screen and one
with a 6.7-inch screen, each coming in a standard model and a pricier “Pro” edition.
The new iPhones are also anticipated to eliminate the “notch” that houses a FaceID camera for
a more streamlined “cut out” approach with a smaller space that leaves room for larger screen
displays.
The new iPhone Pro models are also expected to get upgraded A16 processors and cameras,
and Apple could also release an always-on screen display for showing notifications.
One of the biggest questions heading into the September launch event is how Apple will price
its new iPhones in a period of high inflation. The company’s least-expensive iPhone 13 model,
the “mini,” currently retails for $699 U.S., but is expected to be discontinued.
That would make Apple’s main device, which is currently the iPhone 13, the least-expensive
model at $829 U.S. if its price doesn’t change.
Apple stock is down 11% this year and trading at $161.38 U.S. per share.
