Flight cancellations at privately held WestJet Airlines, one of Canada’s two national carriers, are
growing following a system-wide outage over the weekend.
The Calgary-based airline said it continues to struggle with canceled flights, long wait times, and
other disruptions due to a system outage and severe winter weather in Western Canada.
WestJet confirmed that it canceled an additional 31 flights on Monday (November 7) following
the cancellation of more than 200 flights during the weekend.
The cancellations have left thousands of travellers stranded and seeking compensation from the
airline.
WestJet said it is working to clear the flight backlog and is adding 10 additional flights per day to
help passengers get where they are going.
WestJet Airlines is owned by Toronto-based Onex Corp. (ONEX).
Onex’s stock is down 30% this year at $70.14 per share.
