Apple’s iPhone 17 Goes On Sale Worldwide

Apple’s (AAPL) newest smartphone, the iPhone 17, has officially gone on sale worldwide.

Versions include the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the slimmer iPhone Air. Apple is also launching a new Apple Watch and AirPods.

The launch of the latest iPhone comes as Apple faces growing competition, particularly in China, where it has lost market share to domestic players such as Huawei and Xiaomi.

After years of dominance, Apple now holds only 10% of the Chinese smartphone market, trailing local players that also include Oppo.

However, early indications are that iPhone 17 sales are outpacing those of the previous iPhone 16 series.

Data collected by Chinese technology giant JD.com (JD) shows that iPhone 17 trade-in sales have been four times higher than the same period last year.

Based on preorders and consumer feedback, the initial global demand for the iPhone 17 series appears largely positive, according to industry data.

However, some analysts have criticized Apple for not adding any meaningful artificial intelligence (A.I.) features to the iPhone 17.

There continue to be calls for Apple to develop and launch an updated Siri voice assistant with new A.I. capabilities.

Management at Apple have said they are working on several new A.I. features, including a revamped Siri, and that those enhancements should debut in 2026.

AAPL stock has declined 3% this year to trade at $237.88 U.S. per share.
