NextStar Energy Expands Windsor, Ontario Battery Plant

Privately held NextStar Energy is expanding its lithium-ion battery plant in Windsor, Ontario.

The expansion is being undertaken as the company begins producing energy storage system batteries (ESS) that are designed to support commercial buildings and power grids.

NextStar Energy says the plant expansion comes amid growing demand for energy storage, especially as artificial intelligence (A.I.) data centres and energy grid stability become important.

To meet the rapidly growing demand, NextStar Energy is also introducing a new battery chemistry, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), alongside its Nickel Manganese Cobalt technology.

Going forward, the company will manufacture both ESS and electric vehicle (EV) batteries at its Windsor, Ontario plant.

NextStar says it will be well-positioned to serve both the energy storage and electric vehicle markets, supplying batteries to LG Energy Solution and automaker Stellantis (STLA).

NextStar Energy recently hired more than 1,000 new employees as its plant expansion gets underway in southern Ontario.

As a private company, NextStar’s stock does not trade on a public exchange.
