Meta Trials Premium Subscription Plan For Social Media Apps

Meta Platforms (META) is testing a new premium subscription model for its family of apps that includes Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

The premium subscriptions are expected to give paid users access to more features and expanded artificial intelligence (A.I.) capabilities.

Meta’s suite of A.I. agents will also be scaled as part of the new premium plans.

Analysts say the new subscription plans are a way for Meta Platforms to get a return on its massive A.I. spending.

Other features expected to be offered as part of Meta Platforms’ premium subscriptions include full access to it’s A.I.-powered short-form videos on the Vibes platform.

While Vibes has been free since its launch last year, the new subscription model would grant free access to a basic version of the platform, with the option to pay for additional features.

The new premium subscriptions will be separate from “Meta Verified,” a paid product launched in 2023 that gave users a verified badge, direct support, and protection against impersonation.

META stock has risen 2% over the past year to trade at $672.36 U.S. per share.
