Meta Platforms (META) has unveiled its first artificial intelligence (A.I.) coding agent called “Muse Code” as it looks to challenge the lead of rival startups Anthropic and OpenAI.
Muse Code is aimed at generating revenue from A.I. as Meta continues investing heavily in data centres and computing infrastructure.
The new coding agent, like Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s Codex assistants, makes it easier for people to build apps and develop software.
Muse Code is now available in a preview version and works alongside the company’s latest A.I. model, Muse Spark 1.2.
Developers can access Muse Code through a pay-as-you-go option. Under the cheapest tier, developers must agree to help improve the model.
Meta is differentiating its new A.I. coding tool by price rather than capabilities when compared to competing offerings from Anthropic and OpenAI.
Meta is looking to monetize its A.I. products as it plans to allocate up to $145 billion U.S. to capital expenditures this year.
Currently, Meta Platforms gets 98% of its revenue from online advertisements, a market it dominates by targeting consumers based on user data.
META stock has declined 24% in the last 12 months to trade at $588.77 U.S. per share.
