Consumer electronics giant Apple (AAPL) is expected to introduce a foldable iPhone at its annual launch event scheduled for Sept. 9.
The company, whose new CEO John Ternus took over from Tim Cook on Sept. 1, is expected to unveil the latest version of its products that also include the iPad and Apple Watch.
However, the centrepiece of this year’s launch event, called “Surprise and Shine,” is expected to be Apple’s first ever foldable iPhone.
The company is also expected to deliver on its long-awaited artificial intelligence-enabled (A.I.) Siri digital assistant.
Both the foldable iPhone and A.I.-enabled Siri have been rumored for years and are highly anticipated by analysts, investors, and consumers.
Wall Street expects Apple to announce a new iPhone that folds open like a passport and has a starting price of about $2,500 U.S.
Apple has already said that it is overhauling Siri, incorporating Google’s (GOOGL) A.I. technology into the popular voice controlled digital assistant.
As the new CEO, Ternus faces pressure to deliver on relevant electronic devices that prove Apple’s products are the best way to access A.I.
However, Apple is also expected to introduce the biggest price hike to its iPhone line-up in more than a decade as it grapples with a global shortage and skyrocketing prices for memory chips.
Some Wall Street analysts expect Apple to raise the price of its new iPhone 18 lineup by as much as $500 U.S. per device.
Other analysts say that the top-end iPhone Pro Max with the most memory could see its retail price exceed $3,000 U.S.
AAPL stock has gained 35% over the last 12 months to trade at $319.97 U.S. per share.
