Intel is Back in the Chip Race Against AMD

Intel’s (NASDAQ:INTC) announcement of a delay in its next-generation CPU manufacturing sends the stock well of the $60 support line. Last week, the chip giant announced Tiger Lake. The race between Intel and AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) is back.

Intel previewed the 11th-generation chip at its Architecture Day 2020. This is built on the Willow Cove architecture, which uses "SuperFin" transistors. The full node shift is a generational shift. Though it is on a new 10nm SuperFin design and not on 7nm, the progress is welcome.

Intel still has consumer loyalty and is the preferred solution for corporations. Intel CPUs have integrated graphics and inexpensive boards, lowering the cost for businesses. Tiger Lake will let Intel boost performance while using the same voltage as its Ice Lake chips.

The combination of lower power usage and more power, plus USB4, DDR5 RAM, and support for Thunderbolt 4 will put pressure on AMD. AMD may lead in performance with Ryzen chips but its low-cost office solutions are in short supply. If Intel produces the chip in high volume, it will beat AMD on unit sales.

Intel also debuted Xe graphics. The 50% increase in graphics performance will strengthen its all-in-one solution lead over AMD.
