The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) says that more than a quarter of jobs around the world are at risk of being automated and replaced by artificial intelligence (A.I.).
However, the OECD adds that there is little evidence A.I. has had a significant impact on human jobs – so far.
Jobs at risk of being replaced by A.I. make up 27% of the global workforce, with eastern European countries most exposed, said the Paris-based organization.
At the same time, the OECD found in a recent survey that three out of five workers (60%) fear they could lose their job to A.I. over the next 10 years.
The survey polled 5,300 workers at 2,000 companies, spanning manufacturing to finance.
Despite the anxiety, two-thirds of workers who are already working with A.I. said the technology made their job less tedious.
Minimum wages and collective bargaining could help ease the pressure that A.I. is putting on workers, while governments need to ensure that workers rights are respected, said the OECD.
The OECD is a 38-member group of mostly wealthy nations but also some emerging economies such as Mexico and Estonia.
The findings related to artificial intelligence were published in the organization’s annual Employment Outlook report.
